Chapter 98: Return to the Maiden Home
Around five or six in the morning, she woke up. Xuanyuan Ying opened his eyes, his pupils flashed and he immediately returned to his position.
“Yi? You’ve progresse again?” Gu Yunlan looked at him in astonishment. In that one night, she herself seemed to have made no progress at all.
Xuanyuan Ying nodded his had and stood up, reaching his hand out to her with a smile, “No need to rush, make your foundations stable first! Let’s go! Return first!”
Gu Yunlan immediately stood up. Xuanyuan Ying took ahold of her and the two disappeared from sight in a flash.
In the courtyard, he let go of her. He turned around and headed into his own room, ”Go take a nap first, it’s still quite early. I’ll change my clothes then head to the army barracks!”
“Xuanyuan!” Gu Yunlan called out to him from behind, “In the evening, should I go to the army camp to train too?”
He was right, she’s too rushed. Knowing her physique was lacking so much, she wanted to go to the camp and train!
Xuanyuan Ying halted, the corners of his mouth hooked up, “You’re very welcome to come!”
Watching as he entered the room, Gu Yunlan felt for a moment that she chose very wisely. Diandian hasn’t left the cocoon yet so she has no weapon to go against Bai Linlong. She could only rely on herself now!
After entering the room, she didn’t go to sleep as Xuanyuan Ying did. Rather, she changed her clothes and went to the study room.
The study room was rather cold. She rubbed her hands together and used her Yu Force to wrap around her entire body. Her body warmed up instantly.
There aren’t many things she can do to help Xuanyuan Ying. Despite having a good memory, it couldn’t be helped that she simply hasn’t experienced enough and can’t help with drawing a military map. She could only try her best in drawing some of the firearms from her previous life. A year ago she did draw some, but at that time she only completed one drawing since she didn’t have a particular purpose for it. Now, she wanted to take it out; perhaps it’ll be of some help to Xuanyuan Ying.
She acted out her plan; Gu Yunlan is currently highly determined and motivated. She directly walkted to the desk and sat down. From the brush case, she took out all the material needed to draw a diagram, prepared the paper, and started to carefully draw.
A half hour later, she put down her brush and looked at her results in satisfaction. After rolling it up, she directly stored it away into her pouch.
Seeing the rice paper on the tabletop, she immediately remembered the scene of the two people together last night. She sat in his embrace looking upwards as he looked down at her. The two stared at each other unwaveringly.
With a renewed purpose, she slowly took up her pen and started drawing. Only after she put down her pen did she leave her trance. She was startled upon seeing the rice paper on the table. Unconsciously, she drew the likens of the two people. Seeing the unnatural beauty of both figures, she awkwardly shifted away her gaze.
“Young Miss! Are you in the study room? Miss An is here to give her New Year’s greetings!” Xin’er called out softly from outside the door, asking.
“Let them wait in the guest room, I’ll be out soon!” Gu Yunlan snapped back to consciousness. She took the rice paper carefully and stored it away into her pouch, after which she started to slowly stand up.
Gu Yunlan held onto the hand warmer as she headed towards the guest room. The weather was rather cloudy, and she hoped that it wouldn’t snow. She had planned on going to the barracks later in the evening!
“Big Sister!” Seeing Gu Yunlan’s approaching figure, An Jiaona immediately put down her cup of tea and rose to welcome her, “Nana is here for the New Year’s greeting!”
“Little Sister is too polite!” Gu Yunlan focused her attention and smiled towards her. She directly sat down at the head. Only then did she notice that An Jiaona was the only one there. She casually took the cup of tea Xin’er poured, asking, “Yi? Where’s my brother-in-law? He makes you come alone the first time returning to the maiden home for the New Years greeting?”
“Big Sister! Big Brother Jin is at the barracks, I heard there’s some emergency there!” An Jiaona’s pupils held a smile, as if she was truly proud.
Gu Yunlan glanced at her sideways, she’s happy because of that? Yang Jin is currently enjoying his night life. An Jiaona will probably end up crying in the future. She put down her teacup, saying with a smile, “LIttle Sister! Father isn’t here tonight either, let’s directly go
“Yes!” An Jiaona nodded her head loveably.
Gu Yunlan glanced at her before turning to head out first.
An Jiaona immediately followed, exiting the main gates together.
“That’s right! Big Sister!” An Jioana had a coquettish expression as she scooted closer to Gu Yunlan and whispered, “When I was rinsing my mouth this morning, I vomited a bit. I found a doctor to take a look and said, said… “
Gu Yunlan smiled coldly in her heart, happy news is it? Why be so coquettish? She knew the answer, but she still pretended otherwise. Her face looked genuinely concerned, “What did he say? It’s not severe is it?”
“Big Sister!” An Jioana’s face reddened, and stamped her feed adorably. She said quietly, “The doctor said, the doctor sad, Nana has a child!”
“For real?” Gu Yunlan’s face lit up, grabbed onto her arm, “This is definitely great news. If father was here, he’s probably flip over in excitement. You must take proper care, have you told brother-in-law yet?”
“By the time I got up this morning, he already left!” An Jioana nodded her head coquettishly.
Gu Yunlan looked at her face all flushed red, as if she’d been doused with water. She pondered for a moment, then walked forth, “Nana, let’s head over quickly and come back soon! The weather looks rather cold today. If the cold were to invade your body, then Big Sister would be too guilty to bear!”
“Big Sister!” An Jioana stamped her feet, and caught up to her.
There’s a certain informal tradition where a married woman would go to her maiden’s home with her husband to give New Year’s greetings on the first day of the New Year. On the second day, when the woman returns from her maiden home, then they’d give New Year’s greetings to their new family. But since Marshal Gu isn’t in the city, Gu Yunlan spent the day strolling the streets with nothing to do.
Once they left it was already in the later half of the morning. Gu Yunlan led An Jiaona directly back to the Marshal mansion.
She turned back her head too say to Xin’er, “Tell the kitchen maids to make something more nourishing for lunch. We can’t have a new mother starving!”
“Yes, Young Miss!” Xin’er stopped before the living room then directly headed for the kitchen.
“You guys get the fireplace going, make sure to use silver coal!” Before entering the living room, Gu Yunlan instructed to a servant standing by.
“Yes, Young Miss!” The servant immediately left.
“Big Sis! Aren’t you doing more than needed?” An Jioana looked rather embarrassed as she followed into the living room.
“It’s best for Little Sister to be more careful! You can’t be eating random things. Big Sister heard than even the slightest smell may cause you to lose the child. It’s best to not use makeup either, especially don’t put it in your room!” Gu Yunlan said quietly. She sat at the head seat and smiled at her.
Gu Yunlan refuses to do anything that would truly harm the fetus, afterall, the child is innocent. However as for the true target, how should she leave An Jiaona to create the most entertaining play? She suddenly really looked forward to the day she can witness the Yang Family running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Mengmeng certainly did something right.
“Ah? Big Sis.” An Jiaona covered her mouth in shock, her eyes darting around the surroundings in panic. She immediately sat down next to Gu Yunlan and said in a quiet voice, “We’ve done all this in the last few days. What do I do now?”
“It’s okay! You must be more careful in the first and last three months!” Gu Yunlan said with a smile.
As she talked, the servant had already returned carrying a brazier and set it down before the two before retreating.
“Big Sister, how come you know so much?” An Jiaona looked at her with curious eyes. She heard from the mansion employees before that the young miss isn’t someone who knows much about the world.
“I heard granny telling this to a pregnant woman when I was up in the mountains. I memorized it!” Gu Yunlan smiled wanly, as if it’s just a small matter.
“Big Sis knows so much. Without Big Sis, the child would probably be lost and I wouldn’t know!” An Jioana looked at Gu Yunlan with a gaze full of emotion.
“Aren’t be sisters? With father not here, if I as your older sister isn’t helping you, then who would?” Gu Yunlan said, her smile still there.
“Also, Little Sister is caring for two lives now, so we must find a person to care for you. You shouldn’t even touch this cold water!” Gu Yunlan looked at the empty space beside her, her brows creasing.
“Big Sister, it’s not like you don’t know our current situation!” An Jiaona lowered her head somewhat ashamedly.
Gu Yunlan hooked up the corners of her lips. Why don’t she send a woman over- no, if that woman later blamed her (GYL) for sending her to the man then it’d be bad. Suddenly, her pupils smiled. She took out a bag of silvers from within her clothing and said with a smile, “Little Sister, Big Sis can’t do much these days so take the money and get a servant for yourself. Use leftovers to buy yourself supplements and good food!”
“BIg Sister! This isn’t right! I-” An Jiaona immediately lifted her head in protest but seeing Gu Yunlan holding a giant bag of money in her hands, her voice immediately faded out.
Gu Yunlan smiled wanly. It’s impossible to not know what her depression meant. She tossed the bag over, directly dumping the bag of money into An Jiaona’s hands.
“Big Sis…” An Jiaona seemed to not know where to place her hands and how to handle the bag. She knows clearly how much money she needed but this amount of money…
“Young Miss! Food is ready! Shall we start the meal? Should we wait for the Marshal?” Xin’er walked in.
“No need! Just serve the dishes now! Right, is Mengmeng around? Call her over to eat too!” Gu Yunlan instructed Xin’er.
Once Xin’er left, Gu Yunlan stood up to say to An Jiaona, “As for the money, Little Sis should just take it! Let’s go eat! Little Sis is carrying two lives now, you can’t be hungry!”
“Big Sis is teasing me!” An Jiaona’s face reddened as she put away the money bag before catching up to Gu Yunlan.
Gu Yunlan hooked up the corners of her mouth as she walked out; deep sisterly relationship? An Jiaona certainly didn’t find anything pitiable about Gu Yunlan in her last life. Her altruism right now is simply due to her distaste for murder.
“Oh my! Isn’t this Madam Yang?” Xuanyuan Meng sat in the dining room, watching Xin’er and A’Mu bringing in dishes. When An Jiaona entered, she lifted her head to look at her in astonishment. How is this girl still alive and well!
“Miss Xuanyuan, Happy New Year! Nana greets you!” An Jiaona followed Gu Yunlan walked into the room and bowed slightly towards Xuanyuan Meng.
“You too!” Xuanyuan Meng glanced at her sideways, then didn’t pay her any more attention.
“Sit!” Gu Yunlan found a seat and sat down. Seeing An Jiaona still standing there, she said, “We’re all one family, no need to be polite!”
An Jiaona looked at Xuanyuan Ying cautiously then sat down. However as soon as she smelled the fragrance of the dishes, she felt her stomach flipping about and immediately stood up and ran out.
“What’s wrong with her?” Xuanyuan Meng took a sip of tea, a look of dismay as she watched An Jiaona run out before turning her head back to ask.
“She’s pregnant!” Gu Yunlan drank her tea indifferently, she knew how she’d react to the smell of dishes.
“Pfft!” Xuanyuan Meng spat out a mouthful of tea onto the ground, pregnant? Since Gu Yunlan knew, why didn’t she tell her?
“What kind of behavior is this? If you spat into your bowl, how disgusting would that be?” Gu Yunlan looked at her contemptuously.
Xuanyuan Meng made a face at hr. She turned around just in time to see An Jiaona walking in. Her expression instantly changed as she asked with concern, “What’s wrong with Madam Yang? Could it be that you’re pregnant?”
