Chapter 243: Back To That Key Moment ⑧
Leo quickly checked the situation of people around him. After determining that they weren’t under immediate danger, he immediately rang the alarm. While waiting for the rescue team, Leo began to recall everything that had just happened.
Spiritual scene simulation requires entering a state of emptiness and building one’s own spiritual domain. One had to shield outside interference as much as possible, so Leo didn’t immediately notice the abnormality. It was only when his brain sent a danger signal that he noticed something was wrong. The whole process only took a few dozen seconds and there was no time for him to react at all.
Leo felt some déjà vu seeing the scene in front of him. He thought for a moment and a thought suddenly flashed in his mind. A vague memory gradually emerged. Before his rebirth, his elementary school did face a terrorist attack. Back then, he fell into a coma along with the other children and was cured a few days later. That attack resulted in the death of three children and fifteen children lost their chance to evolve.
Leo was too young that time, and his memory of the incident came from the news reports that followed. Now history was repeating itself again, and he was not aware of it beforehand. The only difference was that he was not affected this time.
The same time, the same place, the same training subjects, why was he able to avoid it this time?
A thought came to Leo’s mind and he looked down at the jade pendant hanging around his neck. If we talk about variables, it was only this piece of jade pendant carved by his mother. It originally should not exist.
Just as he was thinking about it, there was a flurry of footsteps at the end of the hallway and rescue workers arrived.
Leo warned them before they rushed into the training room, “It should be a spiritual poision gas attack, you’d better put on your gas masks and not use the spiritual scans.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, he saw several rescuers suddenly fall to the ground unconscious. They were the sentinels in charge of the scouting, and they would scan the surroundings before they acted. As a result, their spiritual power was eroded by the still dissipating poison gas, and they instantly fell unconscious.
The person in charge’s face turned green, quickly readjusted the action plan and redeployed the rescue team.
When Shang Ke arrived, Leo was sitting by the ambulance and being examined by the doctor.
“Leo, are you okay?” Shang Ke squatted in front of Leo and used his spiritual power to check his condition.
“I’m fine, don’t worry mother.” Leo held his mother’s hand, silently reassuring.
“I heard it was a poison gas attack?”
A cold glint flashed in Shang Ke’s eyes and he said angrily, “These bastards, they are shameless enough to act against children!”
The anti-government union was a terrorist organization established by ordinary people, taking in many elites. They treated all sentinels and guides as enemies, fearing that these evolved people would exterminate them all in the future. They possess an extreme and unreasonable sense of crisis. For centuries, they have been committed to working against the government which is ruled by the evolved people.
As evolved people became more and more powerful, their methods became more and more brutal. It was unknown how many innocent people have become their victims, and this time even children are not spared.
When the doctor finished his examination, Leo took out the jade pendant hanging around his neck and asked, “Mother, this jade pendant…”
When Shang Ke saw the jade pendant, he was secretly glad. Previously, he had engraved a defense formation specially on the jade pendant to protect the wearer’s spirit just in case of any emergency. He never thought it would come in handy so soon. Though, it was not the spiritual power that activated the formation, but the spiritual power he had inputted.
“Yes, this jade pendant can protect your spirit from erosion to a certain extent.” Shang Ke explained simply, “But it won’t work if the spirit is already eroded, so remember to always wear it.”
Leo nodded his head in understanding and played with the jade pendant in his hand. He has once again gained a new understanding of his mother’s abilities. One had to know that no one was able to make such a small spiritual protection device even 10+ years later. If everyone had one, wouldn’t it be possible to completely eliminate poisonous gas erosion?
Leo did not know that the spiritual power to activate the defense array could only be input by a guide. The higher the class of the guide, the longer it can last and the better the effect. Once the spiritual power is depleted, it must be recharged. With Shang Ke’s S-class strength, inputting it once can only guarantee to maintain it for about a year at most.
While the two were conversing, the unconscious people were carried out one by one by the rescuers. As the only victim who was unscathed, he was naturally taken into the ambulance along with the others, accompanied by dozens of police.
“Mother, if someone asks why I am unharmed, how should I answer?” Leo asked in a whisper.
“Tell the truth.” Shang Ke did not feel that the formation in the jade pendant needed to be hidden. If he applies for a patent, he can start selling it later on. It’s just that the engraving of the formation is not something that ordinary people can master. It needs to be engraved along with spiritual power and requires a very high degree of precision.
Just as they were about to leave, something happened again. The initial few rescuers who were unfortunately struck by the poison gas suddenly woke up from their coma and then began to indiscriminately attack those around them. In just dozens of seconds, tens of people were injured. Screams sounded one after another, and the scene fell into chaos.
In a few moments, the children who had been sent into the ambulance “woke up” one after another, crying, screaming, struggling, and running in all directions.
If one looks closely, they will find that the eyes of the people who woke up are frightened and their expressions are distorted, as if they have seen something terrible. Others may still not be aware of it, but Leo, who has memories of the future, quickly realizes that this is an upgraded version of psychosis, which causes people to associate their nightmares with reality and fall into a state of mental collapse.
In the chaos, several guides subconsciously start spirit guiding the frenzied crowd with the intention of stabilizing the situation. However, they end up being infected by the virus and fainted, making the already chaotic situation even more out of control.
The virus can be spread through spiritual power. The guide’s spiritual assistance did not help and would even become a burden. Currently, they can only rely on physical force to subdue the frenzied people.
Unfortunately, the police force is insufficient. The place was out of control, and the frenzied people are either sentinel carrying weapons or unarmed children, the slightest carelessness will lead to accidental injuries. In just tens of minutes, the number of infected people increased from 40-50 to 70-80.
“Requesting for support, requesting for support!” The chief police anxiously sent a distress signal to the headquarters.
“Mother…” Leo leaned into Shang Ke’s embrace with a worried look on his face.
He had yet to say his next words when the child in the same ambulance as them suddenly jumped up from the stretcher and rushed to hit the walls of the car. Just when he was about to hit his head and bleed, he was fortunately stopped by the fast Shang Ke.
The child kept struggling in his hands and crying loudly, and with it, the other unconscious children seemed to have signs of a rampage.
Leo was about to ask his mother what to do, but saw him suddenly take out a bottle from his arms. Opening the cap with his thumb, a pungent smell immediately filled the air, wrapping around the semi-enclosed space.
This smell is just too unpleasant, like shit mixed with vinegar. Even normal people can’t stand, not to mention the sentinels with sensitive five senses. Leo covered his mouth and nose and all his hair stood, his face with a painful expression as if he has constipation.
Then, something shocking happened. The children who were originally rampaging, under the stimulation of this smell, actually gradually calmed down and went back to sleep.
Leo stared in disbelief as the trouble in front of him was so simply solved.
Sensing his astonishment, Shang Ke explained, “I’m using olfactory stimulation to counter poison with poison, temporarily curbing the effects of the original poison gas. It can only last a few hours at most.”
Although it was mentioned casually, not all kinds of stimulating smell can achieve this effect. Leo was tempted to ask his mother how exactly he modulated this strange smell. Even the virus that has plagued the country for decades can not resist, it’s just too unbelievable!
But Leo also knows that there is a prerequisite for the spread of the smell, that is, it must be in a relatively enclosed space. If it is in the spacious outdoors, the smell will dissipate before it has time to work. The anti-government union’s gas attack is also limited by this, otherwise the country would have been in chaos already.
“Boom!” The car suddenly shook with a loud shock.
Shang Ke frowned and said to Leo, “You stay in the car, I’ll go out and take a look.”
Shang Ke jumped out of the ambulance. As far as he could see, there were people running everywhere. In the midst of the dust and smoke, there were laser flashes from time to time. The police put up a cordon outside, surrounding everyone in the middle to prevent panic from spreading.
But 70-80 frenzied infected was not a small number. With the guides being unable to provide assistance, controlling by force alone would inevitably result in casualties.
More unfortunately, among those whose spiritual powers were eroded, there was a C-rank Dark Sentinel who launched a spiritual attack on the crowd, infecting all of the dozens of Sentinels nearby at once. Although those who just got infected would only fall into a coma and not go into a frenzy, their lives were at risk as they were defenseless.
“Captain, we only have dozens of combatants left.”
“Hang in there, support will be here soon!”
“How soon is soon? I’m afraid we won’t be able to hold out for even two minutes!”
“Fuck. You have to hold on even if you can’t. Is the protective armor you are wearing just for show? That is essential for protecting your body and is enough for you to withstand several rounds of firing.”
Following that C-rank sentinel’s spiritual attack, the other infected sentinel also started using their spiritual powers one after another as if they had been stimulated.
Faced with the unorganized spiritual attacks, the police however did not dare to activate their spiritual defense because they would be infected if they did.
Just when they were in a pinch, they suddenly felt that their own spiritual power was being drawn and operating automatically. Their spiritual powers flowed uncontrollably to the outside world, soon merging with the others’ spiritual power to form a defense zone.
They were horrified and could only watch as the infected sentinels attacked them. They all thought they were dead, but after waiting for a long time, there seemed to be no sign of infection at all. Only then did they realize that outside their defense area, there was a layer of spiritual barrier. The light blue halo was like an ocean as it enveloped everyone within, and it was this layer of spiritual shielding that blocked the virus from eroding them.
Following the spiritual fluctuations, the crowd quickly found the source of the spiritual barrier. It was the legendary S-rank Dark guide—Shang Ke.
“Stop dreaming! I can block the virus erosion, but not the weapon attack!” Shang Ke’s clear, cold voice rang out in the air and was heard extraordinarily clearly even in the midst of the noise. As the voice flowed, the sentinels’ originally restless emotions gradually calmed down.
Leo who was in the ambulance looked with bright eyes, and his admiration for his mother erupted like a volcano. A jade pendant capable of defending against virus erosion, a pungent smell capable of suppressing the virus, and finally possessing a spiritual barrier capable of resisting virus erosion!
Mother, from now on, you are my idol!
【Spiritual power breaks through the bottleneck, promoting from S rank to SS rank. After breaking through your attribute’s barrier, you are compatible to all sentinels.】
【Congratulations to Host. From now on, you become a national idol, a world superstar, and opened the road to a harem.】
【Please let loose and enjoy the harem as much as you like. A meagre Yonis can no longer satisfy dear host φ(≧ω≦*)?】
