Chapter 151: I Am An Evil Pen (VIII)
Recently, the staff of Wen Shang realised that their president seemed like an arum lily that bloomed. He was like a spring breeze and very refreshing. The number of times he killed people with his eyes decreased from two digit to one digit. It was really worth celebrating.
Wen Jingrong was sitting before his office table, playing with his pen while thinking about his Keke. Ever since Keke agreed to date with him, he no longer insisted on bringing him along everywhere. Although he was a little worried, this was the first step towards mutual trust. He didn’t wish to screw it up. Fortunately, Keke didn’t disappoint him. He could see him everyday when he went home. Keke would also notify him if he had something on.
However, the only regret was that Keke was never willing to tell him his identity. But that’s okay. He has patience.
“President Wen, Mr Bai from Qingwei has come to visit.” The secretary’s voice sounded through the extension telephone.
“Let him in.” Wen Jingrong collected his thoughts and placed the pen on his hands one side.
A while later, Bai Lin came into the office under the secretary’s lead.
Wen Jingrong knows that his visit today certainly has to do with the cooperation plan with Qingwei he mentioned before.
After a few sentence of courtesy greeting, Bai Lin indeed mentioned his intention to cooperate, and asked why Wen Jingrong rejected.
Wen Jingrong answered, “Qingwei is a company with great potential and has good reviews within the country. However, it’s only within the country. I have carefully checked. Your company’s technical and engineering level has yet to meet the standards for developing the island. Even if you had my financial support, it is difficult to catch up with other large companies within a short time. The success rate of your bidding is low.”
Bai Lin hurriedly said, “President Wen, as long as we have your support, I believe we can fight for a few big projects. As for the technical aspect, we can recruit new talents nationwide and reform the team. Although it will be a little rushed, it’s still possible to meet the deadline.
Wen Jingrong crossed his fingers and said dully, “I wouldn’t even consider risky investment with a success rate below 80%, not to mention when your success rate can’t even reach 60%.” Although it wasn’t difficult for him to win a few projects with his influence, there are too many problems that need to be settled at a later stage. If the schedule gets delayed or if the quality of the development is too poor, it will greatly affect his company’s reputation. A Qingwei didn’t have the qualification to make him take a risk using his reputation.
Bai Lin was becoming anxious. There was no way they could take on the project without Wen Shang’s funding and influence. Wen Jingrong clearly had the intention to cooperate when they were at the party. Why did he change his mind after just a few days?
“Qingwei can only express its regrets since president Wen has your own considerations.” Bai Lin changed the topic and said with a smile, “President Wen, may I invite you out for a meal tonight? President Ge would be there too.”
In fact, he didn’t call for Ge Junxuan at all. He only wanted to borrow his name to move Wen Jingrong.
Wen Jingrong was about to decline when his phone suddenly rang. The name on the screen was—My dear Keke.
Wen Jingrong’s cold expression immediately became gentler. He answered the phone and said, “Keke, what’s up?”
“I’m about to make lunch, do you need me to prepare a meal for you?” Shang Ke asked over the phone.
“Of course, I’ll gladly take it.” The gentleness in Wen Jingrong’s eyes were overflowing, Bai Lin was so stunned seeing it.
After the call ended, Wen Jingrong reverted back to his usual cold self and said to Bai Lin, “Sorry, I have something on tonight.. Maybe next time.”
Bai Lin clenched his fist and a trace of gloominess flashed past his eyes. He said with a forced smile, “Since that’s the case, I won’t disturb you any longer.”
After leaving Wen Shang, Bai Lin’s hate towards the person called “Shang Ke” was at its maximum. He’s always interrupting at the most crucial moment!
Shang Ke knew how unhappy Bai Lin was just by seeing the negative energy on his body. Thanks to him, he actually managed to replenish some negative energy. He can’t absorb negative energy if he leaves Wen Jingrong. However, he can absorb negative energy from the people around Wen Jingrong if the negative energy is rich enough.
Unfortunately, most people wouldn’t have negative energy under normal circumstances. Even if there was, it would be purified by Wen Jingrong’s blessing. Therefore, Shang Ke could only starve for long periods of time. Recently, he would maintain his human form only at night when Wen Jingrong came home. Just now, he saw that Bai Lin had bad intentions, so he used his powers to give Wen Jingrong a call.
Since he agreed to bring Wen Jingrong a meal, he had no choice but to sneak home with his real body.
So when Wen Jingrong was preparing to sign a document in the afternoon, he realised that his magic pen had disappeared mysteriously again. He had used it not long ago, so it must have disappeared in the office. However, no one else entered his office other than a few supervisors and Bai Lin who came in the morning. Amongst these people, who would have touched his pen?
Just when Wen Jingrong was pondering, Shang Ke reached the company with his prepared meal.
Wen Jingrong casually mentioned about the pen, to which Shang Ke smiled and comforted, “No worries. He is your thing, he won’t abandon you and run away.”
Wen Jingrong suddenly went close to him and said in a low voice, “What about you? Will you abandon me and run away?”
“Depends.” Shang Ke moved backwards to avoid being directly stabbed by his blessing.
Seeing this, Wen Jingrong’s eyes darken slightly. He thought that Shang Ke still hadn’t accepted him completely and couldn’t help but feel a little dejected.
“Stay with me in the afternoon. I will get off work earlier and bring you out.”
Shang Ke spent his afternoon in Wen Jingrong’s lounge. He switched on the computer and sort out the data of the unemployed people. There were about 1500 people. If the people who were eliminated from failing the training were within 500, he would be able to meet his mission requirement. What’s left was how he was going to die.
The so-called difficult worlds are of a few types. Firstly, the living environment was tough and he might die before finishing his mission. Secondly, his identity was a terrible person with many wrongdoings that needed to be washed white. Thirdly, the mission had nothing to do with dying. Take the second world for example. The mission given by the system directly told him the way to do it, which is to donate his heart. But for the world he is experiencing now, the mission was to solve the employment issue for 1000 people and had nothing to do with dying at all. He needed to find the opportunity to die and also had to die “heroically”. The mission looked simple but it actually wasn’t easy to complete.
If Shang Ke was cruel enough, he can be considered a “hero” who sacrificed himself if he chose to “die” in Wen Jingrong’s hands to use his life to help the 1000 people gain a chance to overcome their difficult situation. As the protagonist of this world, Wen Jingrong has very good luck. As long as they remain diligent in their job, they won’t have to worry about their livelihood.
However, Shang Ke doesn’t want to do this. He would rather suicide than let Wen Jingrong carry the guilt of “killing” him.
So, should he make himself an enemy? Bai Lin for example?
However, Shang Ke hasn’t even taken action when someone already couldn’t control himself and took the initiative to give him heroic value.
Bai Lin has been secretly sending people to look out for Wen Jingrong’s movement so that he could find an opportunity to approach him. Then, he unintentionally found out that Wen Jingrong was recently preparing to build a manual workshop. This kind of manual workshop really didn’t deserve so much effort from him. Bai Lin only came to an understanding when he realised afterwards that it was built for Shang Ke’s sake. At the same time, he felt even more unwilling to resign to it.
He didn’t even bother looking at projects worth billions, yet he was personally handling this kind of insignificant project that can barely bring him ten million. As a businessman that only looked at profits, was he blinded by love?
Bai Lin has invited Wen Jingrong many times but were all rejected. After determining that they had no hope for cooperation, Bai Lin decided to help himself vent.
He gave his friend from the underworld a call: “Is this brother Xiong? I’m Bai Lin. Mm… I wish to ask you for a favour… Don’t worry, money isn’t an issue…”
Half a month later, a fire broke out at the workshop that was just built. Wen Jingrong was working overtime at his company at that time. He immediately drove over after hearing the news. Shang Ke had arrived at the scene before him because he found the opportunity to die.
There were already 40-50 people who lived in the worker’s dormitory in advance at the workshop. They were in charge of cleaning and taking care of the instruments. They were resting in their rooms when the fire broke out. Someone had fiddled with the alarm bell and they only realised the danger they were in when the fire surrounded the dormitory. However, it was too late when they realised.
When Shang Ke arrived, there were quite a number of people crowding outside of the dormitory looking at the scene. He probed using his powers and realised that there were still 10+ people trapped inside. Shang Ke did not hesitate and rushed resolutely into the fire under the horrified gaze of everyone.
Hold on brothers, the death courting hero is here!
Shang Ke had a spiritual body and wasn’t afraid of the fire. However, he needed to use a lot of his power to protect the others from the fire. He’s going all out for the sake of completing his mission!
A few minutes later, Shang Ke rushed out of the huge fire while carrying a wet man. He quickly put down the man and rushed back into the fire again before the others could react.
The fire was burning crazily and heat waves surged out, causing the people outside to also feel the burning pain. However, Shang Ke was like a fireman. He was moving through the fire without fear, maintaining the speed of one person every three minute as he saved the people trapped inside. His blazing figure left a dazzling brilliance in the red world.
The people took out their phones one after another and photographed this stunning scene as an eternal reminisce.
When Shang Ke rushed into the fire for the third time, Wen Jingrong and the firefighters arrived almost at the same time. When Wen Jingrong got out of his car, he heard the crowd discussing excitedly about someone’s heroic deed. He originally didn’t take it to heart until he saw a familiar figure appearing from the huge fire…
“Keke!” Wen Jingrong almost couldn’t believe his eyes. The person in the fire was his Keke?
Wen Jingrong’s mind blank out. Without thinking, he immediately prepared to rush into the fire but was stopped by the firefighter by his side.
However, Wen Jingrong was very skillful and agile. The few firefighters couldn’t stop him at all and he broke free from them in a blink of an eye. Then, the firefighters panicky watched him rush into the fire.
A firefight reacted quickly as he picked up the hose and sprayed towards Wen Jingrong.
“Why did you rush in?” Shang Ke stared at the death seeking man before him.
Wen Jingrong was even more furious: So it’s okay for you to play with your life but not me?! Didn’t you agree that you will go home and wait for me to go back and eat together? Are you preparing to let me eat human meat skewers?
“I should be the one asking you!” Wen Jingrong pulled the man on Shang Ke’s shoulder over somewhat roughly and shouted in exasperation, “Go, we will speak outside!”
Shang Ke could feel the negative energy emerging from his body. He didn’t dare to waste any more time when he saw that Wen Jingrong was turning red from the heat. He followed Wen Jingrong and rushed quickly towards the exit.
They were about to rush out of the encirclement of fire when a piece of the suspended ceiling fell straight towards Wen Jingrong.
“Watch out!” Shang Ke pushed Wen Jingrong aside but he was smashed by the suspended ceiling himself.
“Keke!” Wen Jingrong’s eyes turned red and his heart almost stopped. He pushed away the half conscious man in his arms and rushed straight towards Shang Ke’s side.
Shang Ke didn’t actually feel much pain being pressed under a heavy object. On the contrary, he felt more pain when Wen Jingrong neared him.
Shang Ke looked up and realised that there were some sparks on Wen Jingrong’s hair. Wen Jingrong might go bald if it continues burning. He doesn’t like bald men.
Shang Ke held Wen Jingrong’s hand and used the little amount of power he had to bless Wen Jingrong and protect him from the fire.
Wen Jingrong felt a coolness over his body. The surrounding fire seemed to be blocked by an invisible barrier and was no longer able to come closer.
He looked at Shang Ke in surprise and discovered that he didn’t seem to be affected by the huge fire at all. His skin looked pale and had no trace of being burned. Faint light seemed to be flickering on his waving hair. His eyes which are reflecting the image of the fire were enchanting.
“Wen Jingrong, stop being in a daze. Quickly leave.” Shang Ke said softly.
“We will leave together.” Wen Jingrong stood up and kicked away the object pressing down on Shang Ke. Then, he stretched his hand to carry him. He was about to use a burst of energy to rush out while carrying Shang Ke when he suddenly felt his hand was empty. Shang Ke who was originally held in his arms slowly dissipated before his eyes like smoke.
Immediately afterwards, a clatter could be heard as an object fell onto the ground.
Wen Jingrong lowered his head to look and saw that it was actually the magic pen that he often wears on his sleeves! His living lover suddenly turned into a pen. Even though Wen Jingrong had good psychological qualities, he was still stunned.
He unconsciously touched his sleeves and indeed found it empty.
Wen Jingrong picked up the magic pen on the ground with trembling hands. His eyes were full of shock and his mind was in a mess. What made him panicked more was the pen body of the magic pen gradually becoming full of stains. It didn’t look as glossy as before but as if it was near the end of its life span.
【Wen Jingrong, quickly leave.】Shang Ke’s whisper-like urging sounded once again by his ear.
Wen Jingrong came back to his senses. He carefully placed the magic pen in his pocket, then carried the man on the ground and rushed out of the fire…
He – It, he and she sounds the same in chinese. Shang Ke used the word ‘he’ but Wen Jingrong will probably take it as a ‘it’.
