Chapter 216: Death Cycle (XIV)
Shang Ke successfully joined the Shadowmoon Mercenary Group. After resting for two days, he followed them and left the temporary base.
Shadowmoon recruited close to 30 level six and above ability users this time. The purpose is to kill two general level zombies wandering nearby. Originally, two general level zombies wouldn’t need so many experts to be sent. However, they had separately established their own territory in two abandoned cities. They hunted humans and livestocks all around and their influence was expanding rapidly. Humans had to annihilate them before they grew too much.
“Based on the information given, the two general level zombies are at Huaiqu and Baonan respectively, at more than two hundred miles apart. To be safe, we will not divide our troops and will concentrate our force to defeat them one by one.” The Shadowmoon Mercenary Group leader Bai Mu pointed at the electronic map and explained the situation to the new members.
“Do we know the specific number of zombies? How strong are they?” A muscular and strong middle-aged man asked.
“There are around 500+ near Huaiqu and 700+ at Baonan. Most of them are low level zombies and the number of high level zombies shouldn’t exceed 50.”
“Then what’s our first target?”
Shang Ke didn’t join in the discussion and leaned on the armoured vehicle alone. His gaze swept through everyone around and finally stopped at a man around 30 years old standing on the steps. He had short reddish brown hair, an ordinary appearance and dark skin. He was wearing a slightly old country outfit, making him look a little decadent and wild as well as having the unique charm a mature man has.
Although he had already chosen Di Kui, Shang Ke was still able to recognise that person in once glance depending on that familiar presence. This matter made him feel perturbed and once again made him question his own judgment.
Why do two different people have the same similar presence? This definitely wasn’t just a simple coincidence. The sensing between him and his lover came from the Flaming Red Sky and their deep feelings accumulated through countless reincarnations. There may be similarities between people, but the soul was unique. Shang Ke is confident he wouldn’t recognise the wrong person.
Huo Xuan who disguised himself as a free mercenary seemed to have sensed his gaze and turned around. He was stunned when he saw Shang Ke. Then, he showed him a small smile.
When they were introducing themselves earlier, Shang Ke remembered him calling himself “Yang Rui” and was a level seven ability user that came from a small town in the south.
Shang Ke then looked at Zuo Xian who was not far away. After Huo Xuan has disguised himself, Zuo Xian was now the strongest person in the team and also the person with the highest status. He wondered if Huo Xuan told Zuo Xian about his disguise.
“Okay, this is the information we currently have. Have a good rest today everyone. We will enter the boundaries of Huaiqu tomorrow and we probably won’t have the time to rest then.” Bai Mu put away the electronic map. After giving a few reminders, he called the companion beside him and walked into an abandoned building.
The others packed up their belongings and followed one after another.
Shang Ke carried his back and walked at the end.
“Where’s your companion?” Huo Xuan walked to him and asked casually.
“I don’t know.” Shang Ke looked at him with cold eyes and instantly entered ‘aggro attracting mode’.
“I saw you looking at me just now.” Huo Xuan continued, “Do you know me?”
“I don’t.” Shang Ke picked up the pace and looked around for a suitable place to rest.
The leader asked everyone to rest on the second floor so that their forces don’t get divided.
Shang Ke soon found a relatively clean room and went straight in. Just when he was about to close the door, he realised that Huo Xuan had already stood in the middle of the living room at some point. He flipped the overturned sofa back up with his feet, pat away the dust and casually threw the package on his shoulder onto the sofa.
Shang Ke propped one hand on the door frame and said to the uninvited Huo Xuan, “Sorry but this is my room, please leave.”
Why is this fellow the same as Di Kui, liking to teleport at every turn.
“Let’s sleep together.” Huo Xuan replied calmly.
My ass! Shang Ke glared at him and pondered whether he should chase him out aggressively or leave mellowly. In any case, he definitely couldn’t stay in the same room with Huo Xuan. Otherwise, it’s going to be great fun when Di Kui comes back.
Based on Shang Ke’s character, he would take a step back and find peace as he would always be kind to others. Now that he has to go against Huo Xuan, he should be a little more arrogant and bossy.
Hence, he walked over aggressively, held Huo Xuan’s T-shirt and dragged him out roughly.
A ripping sound could be heard. Huo Xuan didn’t move, but his T-shirt was torn into two, revealing eight strong abdominal muscles
Huo Xuan lowered his head to look at his T-shirt and said lightly, “You tore my shirt.”
Shang Ke was silent as he held the torn piece of cloth: You’re a dignified human leader. Can’t you wear clothes of better quality?
“Look?” Huo Xuan looked at Shang Ke like he was ready to negotiate the compensation.
Shang Ke put down his bag, searched for a T-shirt inside and threw it to Huo Xuan, “I will pay you the shirt and also let you have the room!”
It turns out that he has no talent for being a bad guy. Or rather, he wasn’t able to be cruel to this man.
“Stay.” Huo Xuan’s voice sounded from behind, “The other rooms are already full. It’s inevitable that things would be inconvenient when we stay outside. Let’s be tolerant with one another.”
Shang Ke’s movement paused for a moment, but he still left the room. He walked one round around the corridor and saw that the second floor was indeed already full. He had no choice but to go up to the third floor. The leader Bai Mu had requested everyone to stay on the second floor. However, he had originally intended to be an incompatible hateful fellow anyway, so he didn’t need to care about the opinion of others.
When night fell, the zombies hiding in the dark came out one after another to move about, occasionally letting out beast-like howls.
The amount of zombies in this area isn’t much. There were only tens of them scattered about. The Shadowmoon Mercenary Group only sent out two members and they cleaned up the nearby zombies.
Shang Ke laid on the bed and didn’t feel sleepy as usual.
Around 1 am in the morning, Di Kui sneaked into the room quietly. Then, he pounced onto the bed and brought Shang Ke into his embrace. A strong stench of blood mixed with the pungent smell of corpse assault Shang Ke straight on, causing Shang Ke to frown. He pulled Di Kui up and dragged him into the bathroom.
Abandoned cities don’t have energy supply. Shang Ke could only use his own water magic to wet a towel and slowly wiped the stains on Di Kui’s body.
Di Kui stared intently at the person before him and his golden eyes sparkled in the dark.
“What did you go out for?” Shang Ke asked.
“Take a walk.” Di Kui casually answered.
How did you “walk” until your body is full of blood? Shang Ke gave him a glance and didn’t ask any further.
Di Kui put one hand on the wall and lowered his head to kiss Shang Ke’s lips, licking and sucking about. The murderous air on him gradually disappeared and all that’s left behind was a fiery hotness.
Although Di Kui behaved normally in front of Shang Ke, the desire to kill in his body made his blood boil and hard to control. He often disappears for a while, mainly to find prey and vent the brutality in his heart.
He had no concerns before. But now, he didn’t wish to see any trace of fear and disgust in this person’s eyes.
“Don’t… it’s all ability users downstairs.” A level six ability user’s perception is enough to detect the movement upstairs.
Why would Di Kui care about the ability users? He held Shang Ke up and strode towards the bed…
The next day, Shang Ke, Di Kui and members of the Shadowmoon Mercenary Group gather in front of the building. Then, they got in the car in groups and headed towards Huaiqu.
At dusk, the group of people arrived at a small town on the border of Huaiqu. They met 10+ zombies as soon as they entered the town. Their levels weren’t high and were easily resolved by Shadowmoon members.
But they had already entered the territory of a general level zombie. They might encounter a surprise attack anytime, so they had to be extra careful.
Bai Mu sent three agile ability users who were good at concealing themselves into the centre of Huaiqu to investigate the situation. The rest of them remained in the town temporarily and made preparation for battle.
At night, none of the three ability users in charge of investigating returned. The originally fairly relaxed atmosphere of the mercenary group became solemn
Everyone squeezed in a small building and looked at the zombies walking around outside with an ugly expression.
“The number is more than what we have estimated.” Song Bin lowered the curtain and said in a low voice.
“The life and death of the members that went to investigate is unknown and we’re also unable to accurately judge the situation in Huaiqu.” Bai Mu looked towards Zuo Xian who was sitting on the sofa and said, “Zuo Xian, we might have to trouble you to make a trip personally this time.”
Zuo Xian nodded his head and said, “I need a helper.”
“No problem.” Bai Mu smiled and said, “You can choose anyone amongst us.”
“I will choose him then.” Zuo Xian pointed towards the corner.
The people looked towards the direction his finger was pointing and saw a handsome young man. It was Shang Ke.
Shang Ke: I got aimed even though I didn’t do anything. Can’t you let me be a quiet beautiful man?
“You’re called ‘Shang Ke’ right?” Bai Mu said gently, “We will be leaving it to you and Zuo Xian to handle this investigation mission.”
Shang Ke has yet to speak when Huo Xuan suddenly said, “Add me too.”
“You?” Bai Mu obviously didn’t know Huo Xuan’s disguised identity. He said hesitantly, “The mission this time is very dangerous. Don’t force it if you’re not confident.”
This man called “Yang Rui” is a level seven ability user, but Bai Mu had never seen him make his move before. Everyone didn’t know much about his strength. Shang Ke was different. He should be pretty strong since he is looked at differently by Huo Xuan and Zuo Xian.
“I know.” Huo Xuan’s tone was dull, but there was a bit of indisputable arrogance in his eyes.
Bai Mu looked at Zuo Xian and sought his opinion, “What do you think, Zuo Xian?”
Zuo Xian didn’t even give Huo Xuan a glance. He said coldly, “As he wishes.”
He stood up and left behind a “keep up”, then disappeared from the room.
The last two words are obviously meant for Shang Ke and Huo Xuan. Judging by this, it seems like he doesn’t know Huo Xuan’s identity too?
Shang Ke walked outside with Huo Xuan while secretly looking at him.
“You’re peeping at me again.” Huo Xuan suddenly said.
Shang Ke: “…”
“Follow closely beside me later.” Huo Xuan’s figure flashed and he disappeared into the night.
Shang Ke stood at the doorway of the small building and the cold night breeze blew at him. He just wants to say to those two experts: Do you guys think that everyone in the world can teleport…
At this moment, Shang Ke suddenly felt something tighten around his waist and he was hugged into a familiar embrace. The scenery before him changed quickly and he appeared miles away in a blink of an eye.
Hehe, his zombie king is back. Shang Ke hugged the man’s neck tightly and put his face onto the man’s chest. His body felt comfortable like a tame cat and he let the man take him running and flying.
10+ minutes later, the two of them stop on the roof of a building.
“We’re here?” Shang Ke looked around and only saw an uneven dilapidated storey.
The man behind him didn’t speak but his strong arm was still circled around Shang Ke’s waist.
Shang Ke turned around to look. He had thought that the person behind him was Di Kui, but it turned out to be Huo Xuan instead!
“Huo Xuan, why is it you?” Shang Ke quickly took a step back. He couldn’t believe that he actually recognized the wrong person? He actually recognized the wrong person when they were so near to each other!
The two of them had similar figures, their body temperature leaned towards the cold side and they both had the familiar breath. However, one was a zombie and the other was a human. It’s impossible for him to recognize the wrong person no matter what!
“What’s wrong?” Huo Xuan stared at Shang Ke quietly, his eyes as dark as midnight.
“No, nothing.” Shang Ke looked away and tried his best to calm his breath.
“As expected, you recognized me.” Huo Xuan’s voice was filled with joy.
Even Zuo Xian who was with him all day long didn’t see through his disguise. Yet, the person before him recognized him in one glance.
Shang Ke felt depressed, “No, I recognized the wrong person.”
Di Kui and Huo Xuan, just who was his man? He’s going crazy! Quickly give him a swift end!
